Dawn says: On Monday 7/12/04 10:28 AM This is an excellent way to indulge yourself or any of your beloved friends! The finest chocolates I have had in a long, long time! The shop is beautifully decorated, inviting, and enticing! The aroma's coming off the display case - intoxicating! I am salivating thinking about my next visit!
Joel says: On Saturday 2/14/04 11:36 PM I'll tell you how expensive. I just purchased a 12 piece set for about 19 bucks. I'm telling, though, that sitting with my wife sharing each one with wine and relishing each unique flavor was worth it. This probably goes current public sentiment, right now, but this stuff is two or three leagues above Fannie May or any other mass produced stuff. In creativity, packaging, aroma, and flavor. I'll probably use these in catering my next party, even though I'll only be able to afford to give each guest one or two. But this is where I buy my chocolates from now on. Quality over quantity!
John Hadjisky says: On Sunday 12/28/03 4:27 PM A friend contributed a box of six beautiful, hand-made chocolates from Bon Bon of Chicago for a Yankee Swap this Christmas. These chocolates were *outstanding*. Each is shaped or decorated quite distinctively, they are really works of art. With the box comes a printed half-page in which the chocolate maker has marked, by hand, which ones are in the box, a nice personal touch. Names are evocative, like "Green Jewel" (dark ganache with mint), yet it's clear exactly which chocolate that refers to because of the decoration -- no guessing! In addition to the standard gourmet flavors you might expect, like "Silver Crown" (milk chocolate with Grand Marnier), you get such novel delights such as "Milk Buddha" (flavored with Chinese-style five spice curry) and "Silver Buddha" (dark chocolate with ginger -- first rate!!). There are at least 20 other confections available, I hope one day to try them all, especially "Pate de Fruit" (Blackberry, Lychee, Pear, Passion Fruit, Exotic fruit, Apricot). This gift turned out to be overkill for a Yankee Swap, because it was in a completely different league from all the other odds-n-ends gifts at the Swap. My friend from Chicago who brought it tells me Bon Bon is a family affair, with Mom making the confections and the daughter (whose face is covered with metal -- at least 10 piercings...of course she's a perfectly pleasant person) running the register. My friend also admits it was fairly expensive, without giving details which would violate the spirit of the Swap. In my opinion, worth it every penny, whatever she paid.
